Best known for his light tunnels and light projections, Turrell’s Skyspaces, or naked eye observatories, are another way the artist manipulates light and space to alter not only what we see, but how we experience time.


The Color Inside is … a place where the mind can relax and the eyes and ears can take in the sights and sounds and simple shifts in observation and perception.


“I think Austin is beginning to get to the point where perhaps we realize we don’t have to resort to the standard conventions of public art,” says Doug Dempster, dean of UT’s College of Fine Arts. “Perhaps we’re beyond the ‘bronze age’ of considering heroic bronze statues as the only kind of public art.”
