Celebrating Monika Bravo

On Wednesday, November 17, Landmarks celebrated its newest commission, a digital animation by artist Monika Bravo, sited at UT’s Jackson Geological Sciences Building. First begun in 2010, An Interval of Time chronicles the evolution of the artist’s practice over the past decade and underscores her deepening interest in the interwovenness of metaphysical, spiritual and scientific inquiry.

The online event opened with remarks by Landmarks Director Andrée Bober and Jackson School of Geosciences Dean Claudia Mora. Bravo then introduced her artistic practice to the audience, sharing examples of previous work and highlighting the different sources and ideologies that informed it.  This was followed by a Q & A with Bravo and Landmarks Curatorial Contributor Alexandra Mendez, including an exploration of An Interval of Time and the inspiration behind it, including feminism, geological data, and poetry.

We invite you to learn more about the installation in an essay that can be found under “Essay” on Bravo’s artist page

An Interval of Time may be viewed in-person during general access hours from 6AM - 7PM, Monday thru Friday, in accordance with the university’s semester schedule.
