Landmarks recently welcomed two new interns, Jo Roznovsky (left) and Angela Liu (right), who joined our Education and Communications departments, respectively. Through their internships, Jo and Angela will gain real-world experience, amassing skills that will help prepare them for life after college and a career in the arts. Learn more about them in this blog.

Jo Roznovsky is a third-year undergraduate studying Art History with a Bridging Disciplines Program (BDP) certificate in Museum Studies. She is also a Landmarks docent and former James Turrell Skyspace attendant. Jo will assist the education department with developing tours, broadening Landmarks’ outreach to K-12 students, and other initiatives.

What is your favorite work in Landmarks' collection?

My favorite work in the collection is Nancy Rubins’ Monochrome for Austin. When I first toured UT, this work really resonated with me as a visual representation of how, even though we’re all moving in different directions, our paths are all intertwined.

What special projects are you working on for Landmarks this semester?

I am very excited to participate in Austin Museum Day this semester! I am also conducting research on some historical buildings on campus that are potential sites for some upcoming Landmarks projects.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I read a lot! My all-time favorite book is The Great Gatsby, but I love anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid or Frederik Backman. I also love going to football and basketball games and spend most of my weekends at DKR or Moody Center!

What are your plans after undergrad?

I plan to take a gap year before applying to graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in art conservation.

Angela Liu is a second-year undergraduate studying Studio Art and Informatics, with a certification in Elements of Computing. She is also a Landmarks docent. This semester, she will assist the communications department with developing content for Landmarks’ social media and blog, and will capture photo and video content of the collection.

What is your favorite work in Landmarks' collection?

I’ve led a few tours before, and out of all the works in the collection I would say that Monochrome for Austin by Nancy Rubins and A Mathematical Theory of Communication by Casey Reas are my favorites. What draws me to them is the media and methods the artists’ used to create the works. Both present strong visual qualities while also incorporating knowledge from the world of technology and engineering.

How do you hope your internship with Landmarks will contribute to your professional goals?

I believe my pursuits in professional and academic settings should contribute to social good. Therefore, learning the behind-the-scenes workings of non-profit organizations like Landmarks will provide valuable insights to help me achieve my goals.

What do you like to do in your free time and around campus?

I enjoy volunteering with Landmarks, especially during events like the upcoming dog walk! I also like to walk or run around campus in nice weather and spend time hanging out with friends.

What are your plans after undergrad?

My current plan after my undergraduate studies is to either start a career as a User Experience Designer or enter graduate school to further explore how my areas of interest can help address mental health issues.
