Now in its sixth year, Sound in Sculpture features student-composed music written in response to art in the Landmarks collection. A partnership with Texas Performing Arts and the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music, the popular multidisciplinary program will take place on April 15 as an official part of the city-wide Fusebox Festival. Performances will be inside Bass Concert Hall at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with a reception following the second performance.

This year, university students Austin Ali, José Castillo, Nathan Nokes, Abhi Rao, and Rita Yung created musical compositions inspired by Landmarks sculptures in Bass Concert Hall. They include Koren Der Harootian’s Prometheus and Vulture (1948); Magdalena Abakanowicz’s Figure on a Trunk (2000); Louise Bourgeois’ Eyes (1982); Jim Dine’s History of Black Bronze I (1983); and Ursula von Rydingsvard’s Untitled (Seven Mountains) (1986-1988).

The event is free of charge and open to all.
