Landmarks announces the 2026-2027 lineup of its signature music programs, Songs in the Skyspace and Listening with Landmarks. The programs offer unique opportunities to explore Landmarks’ collection of modern and contemporary art through a musical lens.
Listening with Landmarks features playlists by Austin music notables, curated in response to works from UT’s public art collection. Songs in the Skyspace showcases a diverse mix of voices and instruments, with monthly performances inside James Turrell’s immersive Skyspace, The Color Inside. The programs are proudly sponsored by KUT/KUTX and KMFA, respectively.
Listening with Landmarks
Listening with Landmarks launches its eighth season with a playlist by Mike Melinoe, a Detroit-born multidisciplinary artist whose genre-defying music moves between hip-hop, R&B, pop, and rock. For his playlist, Melinoe responded to Tony Smith’s Amaryllis with tracks from Don Toliver, Gunna, and others, alongside his own song “Reload.”
In the following months, playlists will be released from country band Croy and the Boys; electro-pop trio Glass Mansions; funk and soul artist Henry + The Invisibles; heavy psych duo SKLOSS; indie soul band Rococo Disco; eclectic house DJ Wyldflower; and psychedelic rock band Gran Moreno.
The playlists cut across musical genres to include jazz, rock, Classical, Tejano, folk, R&B, and country. One playlist is released each month and is available on Landmarks’ website, social media channels, and on Spotify.
Songs in the Skyspace
Songs in the Skyspace returns September 20 with a performance by indie singer-songwriter Elijah Delgado, one of Austin’s most promising new voices. Delgado has performed at the Old Settler’s Music Festival and UtopiaFest, and will play the Austin City Limits festival this fall.
The season also includes experimental ensemble Mothfur & Friends; breakout indie pop and R&B artist Lynndigo; cello and harp-guitar duo Violet Crown Affair; New York-based jazz singer Eloise Carter Walne; a three-night residency from Grammy-winning choral ensemble Conspirare; genre-spanning cello ensemble Texas Cellos; and a special showcase presented by Austin community radio station KAZI 88.7 FM.
All performances are free and open to the public, but reservations are required. They are released two days prior to each performance, at noon, and available on the Turrell website.
The intimate performances are held within James Turrell’s Skyspace, an immersive, freestanding art installation located in the heart of the UT campus. Each sunrise and sunset, a pre-programmed light sequence fills the space with brilliant washes of color. Through Turrell’s masterful manipulation of light, the sequences cause the sky to appear in unimaginable hues. Among Austin’s most celebrated cultural destinations, the Skyspace is visited by more than 75,000 people each year.
